In Pursuit of
Happiness

the final winner even though today is the last day of the blog hop.
I want to thank
each of you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts about romance. Thanks for
letting me know about your favorite authors...it’s amazing just how much we all
read and how many of the same authors we all love.
There seems to
be one theme that has gone through these last few days and it’s what I call the
pursuit of happiness. We read books, specifically romance, because it makes us
happy. Sure, we use it as a form of escapism, to take us away of the dreariness
of everyday living. Sure, we love those happy endings and can’t wait ot see
even more of them.
Some days it is
hard to find one good moment. We all have them and romance reminds us that
somewhere, some place there are people living out their dreams. Romance takes
us to faraway places where life is different and always tensions free, or so it
seems. LOL! Romance also takes us to different times where life was vastly
unlike what we experience today. We all have to admit, modern conveniences like
running water and toilets are wonderful. Still, it’s interesting to think of
life without things we take for granted.
Ever see the
movies American Dreamer and She-Devil from the ‘80s? If not, you should as they
are very interesting takes on romance. In American Dreamer, a normal American
housewife lives out her dreams through the romance she reads because her life
is so very boring. When she gets amnesia and truly believes she is the
character in the books she loves so much, life gets really exciting. She-Devil
takes on the other side of romance, where a romance author takes herself way
too seriously and has many affairs, eventually decided on another woman’s
husband. The wife is bent on revenge and while she finds it to be sweet, it is
unfulfilling in the end.
While romance
does many things for us, each of us need to remember that life is what we make
it. Happiness propagates happiness. Read more romance, be happy and enjoy
life...a life full of books, romance and lots more.
What, besides
romance, makes you happy? How do you pursue happiness? Can’t wait to hear your
answers...see you all tomorrow!
Remember, there
will be another give away of a $20

Hi Lynn! I agree with you that romance is all about escape. I also think it's about recapturing that falling in love feeling. You can only fall in love once with the man of your dreams, but in romance novels, you get to feel it all over again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being in the hop!

Romance is about the love we have now, about love lost, love found, and second chances.I wish everyone would have romance in their lives, and that love could prevail no matter what the odds.
ReplyDeleteWhat else (other than romance) makes me happy? Yarn :) Sock yarn in particular - I love to knit, and finding a new skein in a pretty colour makes me happy.

Romance is definitely about escape. What makes me most happy is getting to fall into someone else's world for a while and knowing no matter what happens there will always be a HEA.
ReplyDeletelindsayavalon (at) gmail (dot) com
I agree! Romance is to escape the everyday life and live in the perfect lives of our characters and their HEA.

It's hard to find a book that is devoid of romance. I like some mystery added in and love a historical setting. The historical plot line is especially good for the escape aspect

Besides romance, what makes me happy is doing things for my family. And it's usually the little things that matter. I also enjoy volunteering in my community.
