HEA versus HFN
Welcome to Day 2 of the Romancing The Blog hop. I’m just getting to many of your comments today as I’m on the other side of the world. The majority of you love those happy endings, so I’m going to be talking about those here in a moment.
The first thing I need to do is to award the $20 gift certificate to Amazon...the winner for August 31st is...Liese2(sqwalker2@hotmail.com)! Come on down and claim your prize. I will email you at the address you provided. Congrats!
I can see some of you scratching your head...HEA? HFN? Whatever is that woman talking about? Happily-ever-after versus happily-for-now is the topic of the day. Now, in my honest opinion, I don’t buy the happily-for-now and feel cheated. Those are the books where the hero and heroine end up together but you aren’t sure they’re going to stay together.
The main genre I see doing these endings are Urban Fantasy and rightly so. Those books aren’t romance and shouldn’t even be seen as such...but still...there are moments where I feel cheated even though I know the story isn’t a romance.
Romance is all about the happily-ever-after and I want to see those people together. Period. I don’t want to think that they may be going through more of the same negative stuff in another book. It was one of the traits that made me give up on Rosemary Rogers after the first book. I mean, really, how many times can you pull a couple apart, throw them back together and NOT have your readers heads spinning. I never knew what was going to happen next and I didn’t like it one little bit because the book was a romance not a saga.
Some of my favorite romance writers of today are those with me here on this blog hop. People like Carrie Ann Ryan, Melissa Keir, Nina Pierce, Felcity Heaton, Jenna Jaxon, Jennifer Lynn, Lexi Ryan and Ella James to name but a few. I also love Lisa Mondello, Debra Holland and Cynthia Woolf. There are so many great authors to choose from, my head spins daily as I look at my ebooks to decide what’s next from my own to-be-read pile. The great choices are many, so none of us should be hurting for our happily-ever-after.
Who are some of your favorite authors of today? Why do you like them? Do they provide the happily-ever-after you’re looking for? Can’t wait to hear from you!
Remember, there will be another give away of a $20 Amazon gift certificate to one lucky person who comments today. Don’t forget to leave your email!

HFN's kill me! I feel it leaves the story unfinished somehow and when there is room for doubt...that's when the couple's story goes downhill from there. Hence, the saying...When it rains...well you get the idea! Thanks for the awesome giveaway and for joining the hop!

I can handle both HFN and HEA as long as they're believable.

For a standalone I want HEA everytime. I need the closure that that gives.
ReplyDeleteFor a series I can stand HPN for a little while as long as when the series ends I get my HEA.

ReplyDeleteI love Vicki Lewis Thompson, Susan Mallery, Lori Foster...the list goes on, what I look for is a story that is a total escape from the everyday

Hmm, I love Nalini Singh, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, Lisa Kleypas and many others. I think I love them for the humor that they blend with the story, it's very important for me, and for their great characters and believable HEAs. Besides providing the HEA, they show in the other novels of the series(I usually go for those, not the stand-alones) how the characters keep staying in love and are happy, even though they have fights or misunderstandings in their day-to-day lives.

I love the characters, the plots, the HEA's, my favorites are historical and contemporary romance novels, I don't have a favorite author.

I love feeling the emotions of the h/h as they find their way to their HEA.... a must for me. Love series, so you can revisit previous HEA's and love epilogues for the same reason...seeing the HEA evolve :)
ReplyDeletegreat post, great prize!

I prefer a HEA ending but if all I can get is a HFN ending I can take it. I hate books that don't have a very happy ending because I read to escape the real world.
