Welcome to week 61st
week of My
Sexy Saturday. As we all know, the weekly theme is always about a
couple. Sometimes the couple is young, sometimes a little older. Sometimes, one
of them doesn’t know they are sexy. This week’s theme is all about Getting Your
Sexy On. Wow…what a theme…reminds me of so many things.
This week in Austria, it’s
gone from being the pleasant fall weather I’ve so looked forward to having to
something out of early winter. It’s cold. So cold, I’ve had to don a jacket
more than once this week. It’s also raining occasionally and that makes the
days gray thus rendering them fabulous times for getting a good book to curl up
with. I’ve been doing that too. Lots of shorts, lots of mysteries and lots of
cowboys for me recently. Did I really say cowboys? LOL! They’re really not the
ones you think, I can guarantee. Look up the hashtag #LongLiveLongmire and you’ll
see what I’m talking about.
So, this week, we’re talking
about getting your sexy on. And I can’t say it better than a short I’m working
on called Worth the Wait. It’s a wonderful
little story about that time when one is young and getting ready to go to
college. Once that occurs, things change forever. But sometimes, you have
something that happens right before you go to make you think there’s a chance
that you are attractive to the opposite sex. High school girls are so angsty
and while this story may be a little about that, it’s a lot more.
To be honest, I wasn’t going
to do anything with this great little story. Then I saw this fantastic cover
and knew, right away, that it belonged to this story. I couldn’t have found a
better fit. It said everything I wanted to say about the couple when they were
in high school and when they were
adults. Here’s the setup for Worth the Wait.
Jenny Adams wasn’t a
popular girl in high school. No one understood the attraction star-running back
Reese MacGyver had for her, least of all Jenny. When it looked as if things
were getting hot and heavy before going away to college, Reese put on the brakes
by soliciting a promise from her that they would get together, if neither were
taken, at their tenth high school reunion. In a split-second decision and
because of her love for him, Jenny puts it all in, vowing to make good on a
teenage wish.
But ten years is a long
time to wait. While Jenny has had relationships come and go, the promise always
remains on her mind even when Reese becomes the man of every woman’s dream.
He’s been very busy with his life and has become one of the richest men under
thirty in decades. Jenny has done good too but not nearly that good and she
wonders if he’ll be a man of his word as their tenth reunion looms.
And as the day draws
every closer, she wonders if it will all be worth the wait…
So what do you think? Is it
going to be Worth the Wait? It will be
coming out soon as a self-published short. And I’ll be honest, it’s had some
setbacks as it was slated to come out on September 20th. Sometimes
things just don’t turn out like you want, so it’s been pushed back until
sometime around November 1st. It's in the final editing stages, so be kind, this is an unedited except. Enjoy
today’s seven. Happy reading!
“Oh. I’m Jenny and we haven’t met before.” She lowered her eyes,
willing herself not to drool. The few friends she had would never believe it.
She had been face to face with the cutest boy in high school and he wanted to
know her name.
“Don’t like sports?” Reese leaned down to gaze in her eyes.
“I like sports fine. I...I just don’t fit in with the sports
crowd.” Her voice sounded breathless even to her as she glanced up at him.
He looked her up and down. “I think you fit in just fine.”
“Reese, get your ass over here!” There was no mistaking the
voice of the football team captain.
They both turned toward the sound as the kid called him. Shaking
his head, he leaned in and whispered. “I’d say they are all blind.” He gave her
hand a gentle squeeze before running to catch up to them.
She could feel the tightness low in her belly just like she was
still seventeen. And again like that one time where his friends had disturbed
their first encounter, she could hear some of them at the table next to them.
Smiling wryly, she wondered about her luck to pick the one table next to the
most snobby people from the school.
