Our Sexy Halloween ~ @oddlynn3 #MySexySaturday #MySexyAuthors #LynnCrain #MSS116

Welcome to week 116th week of My Sexy Saturday. This week’s theme is Our Sexy Halloween and to be honest, I don’t really have anything about Halloween. I have thought about writing a story specific to Halloween but never got around to it. The closest story that I have to something all nasty and scary would be The JR Chronicles.

Please Monday’s Austria Scoop and a Tuesday’s My So-Called Writing Life columns this week. Last week I talked about some awesome things happening here in Europe as well as how being the master of my own fate. Remember, if you comment on any of the posts, you might just win a $25 monthly Amazon gift certificate, which is awarded the week after the last day of any month.  Don’t forget to comment and often!

This series is about a wonderful girl and her sidekick – a ghost who is determined to protect her from herself. She is learning about her power and how she can use that power to keep the world safe. And to start, she is journalling like she was taught to understand more about herself and her cases as well as to leave information for whoever follows her path. Please remember that this is a WIP and is not edited. Since there’s no blurb or logline yet, I’ll just describe the series in the words of Serenity Donovan, heroine xtraodinaire. Here’s what she had to say:

Ever wonder what's on the other side?

Well, don't. It's not necessarily the fantasyland most people imagine. It's more complicated than that. I should know, I visit more often than just about everyone.

The only difference is I live to tell the tale.

Then there’s Jasper. Oh, my, he’s the kind of guy a girl wants to bump pelvises with and never look back. There’s just one minor problem. He’s a ghost who’s still blamed for a 150 year old set of murders that he had nothing to do with.

So instead of him doing the deed and talking dirty to me, I have to prove him innocent. Then maybe – just maybe – he’ll give into those things he says he doesn’t feel.

Here’s my equivalent to seven not-really-sexy paragraphs from Serenity’s February 2009 Journal in The JR Chronicles:

10 ~ Met my first young male werewolf today. It was really anticlimactic. Found his shivering little ass in the barn making a ruckus with the chickens right after midnight. Good thing he didn’t have a feather coming out of his mouth or we’d have issues. Made him get in the pen when he tried to get away. I think the only other thing it’s been used for was another werewolf who was being vicious. Mom didn’t want to put him down, so she caged him. I’m sure this one’s mother is going to be pissed. Too bad, she can wait as I’m going to bed.

11 ~ Howling and waking my ass up at 4 am isn’t a good way to become my friend. Never mind the fact it took her over 24 hours to find her pup in my barn. I took my time getting out there too because I needed a cup of coffee first. Besides the wards on the barn will hold as they were my Mom’s. Late entry – I took my cup of Joe with me and an extra robe. Figured she’d want a cover up. Can’t do much more than an old t-shirt of my Dad’s for the kid though. She’s pacing furiously and shows me her big teeth. Told her she only had 30 minutes or so until the moon set and we’d talk then. Shows me more teeth and she seems impressed that I’m not in the least bit worried. What she didn’t know was that I was really quaking in my boots as she was an unknown wolf. Unknowns are always dangerous as they can turn on you in a second. I’d been around weres all my life. Fred Weaver’s pack lived up an arroyo about three miles up the canyon and I’d been friends with his daughters all my life. Five minutes after the moon went down, she shifted and it was painful to watch. The little one howled in agony and I learned just how hard it was growing up were with bones that weren’t quite set yet. The woman looked familiar and I found out she was Fred’s sister and on her way there when Thurmond decided to take a detour. She’d heard of my Mom from Fred and sad to hear of her passing just last year. She was sorry that they caused any issues. I brushed that off and invited them to wait while I got Fred to come and get them. She wasn’t sure he’d be able to but I thought we should try. Seems as I was right for once. I didn’t let on to Maya I knew he’d be able to come right away as Mom had been teaching Fred how to control his wolf more over the years. He arrived quickly and carted his relatives off. My only reminder was to warn Thurmond off my chickens. Jasper was amazed at my generosity. I am my mother’s daughter.

12 ~ Jasper says it’s all in the details and I asked him what he means by that. He smiled and told me to tell him what I thought it meant. Then he asked about the werewolf and suddenly it became crystal clear he’d been following my every move. Don’t know whether to be excited or pissed.

For a more sexy except from the first book in this series I’ve posted on previously here. This one just fit the Halloween theme more and felt like sharing it today. My Sexy Saturday ~ @oddlynn3 #LynnCrain #MySexySaturday #MSSAuthors #MSS108

Welcome to week 108th week of My Sexy Saturday. This week’s theme is Talk Sexy To Me. Oh boy, do I love this theme. Most of my characters talk sexy to each other but recently, the ones that I really love are in a WIP called Angels and Demons. This is part of The JR Chronicles that I’ve been working on this summer. I really love this series as I am working on Serenity’s journals as well as some short stories for each of the months in those journals.

The journals and the short stories are a way for me to really know and understand these characters. It makes me very excited when I’m working on them and I get that wonderful, tingly feeling writers get when they are really excited about their work. It’s extremely important for us to feel that way and this book has me in spades.

Just a friendly reminder, don’t forget to visit Monday’s Austria Scoop and a Tuesday’s My So-Called Writing Life columns this week. Summer is finally over here and I’m getting back in the swing of things with planning and such. Check me out on Monday and Tuesday to get the full scoop of just what’s been happening to me.

Today’s story is one that I’m totally excited about like I mentioned. I love how it ebbs and flows. I’ll be honest, I haven’t worked on a blurb or anything like a logline with this story yet. The best way I can describe this series is what Serenity told me to put under her ‘About Me’ box on The JR Chronicles website. Here’s what she had to say:

Ever wonder what's on the other side?

Well, don't. It's not necessarily the fantasyland most people imagine. It's more complicated than that. I should know, I visit more often than just about everyone.

Here’s my seven unedited sexy paragraphs from my work-in-progress Angels and Demons:

His raspy sound told me again of this displeasure as his fingers ran over the raised flesh. “I told you there were other ways. You didn’t have to mar your beautiful skin to make sure we were protected.”
“If you remember, I most certainly did.” I stood there, quivering at his touch. We’d been here many times and it would only take a little shove to make it all go another way.
“We can’t do this, Serenity. Not now, not ever.”
“Why not?” I whispered. “We could enjoy ourselves and…”
“Pretend it didn’t happen?” Barely moving, his head went from side to side. “I could never dishonor you so. We’ve talked about this.”
I closed my eyes, the sensation of his touch making me tingle all over. “How many times have I told you? In this day and age you wouldn’t be dishonoring me at all. We’d have some fun, get our frustrations out over the case then continue working together. Just like we always do.”
“It’s not that easy for me, Serenity.” His eyes darkened and as much as he held back, I knew he wanted to bump pelvises too.

Sexy's Got You Babe ~ @oddlynn3 #MySexySaturday #MSSAuthors #LynnCrain #BYNR

Welcome to week 88th week of My Sexy Saturday. This week’s theme is Sexy’s Got You, Babe and it was related back to the song, I Got You Babe. And I’ve got to admit…I’ve got nothing…LOL! The reason I say this is because what this means to me is that it’s all about a couple who have been there for each other practically forever. Through thick and thin. Since they first laid eyes on each other at a very young age. Think Braveheart or 13 Going On 30 type movies. Things Friends.

First, let me remind you not to forget to my Monday’s Austria Scoop and Tuesday’s My So-Called Writing Live where I talk about the limos and tiaras. Not really but it does sound good. Remember, the more comments you make, the more you’re entered into my monthly drawing for a $25 gift certificate to the ebook retailer of your choice. If you don’t comment, you can’t win…it’s that simple. Enough about the blog…onto the good stuff!

Like I said, I don’t really have anything that fits my idea of this theme. So, I thought I’d go for a work-in-progress that is so new, I haven’t told anyone about it. Well, that’s not quite true, I’ve talked about it a lot…just not here...at least not much. It even has its own website because I love the storyline so much. Now, these characters have known each other for a long time. The hero just feels that he can’t care for the heroine, at least not in the way he really wants. It takes positively years for him to realize he can make a real difference in her life by loving her. Even I don’t know when that’s going to happen since the series is still unfolding in my mind.

It’s an urban fantasy and the very first thing to tell you that it has the presence of magic. And ghosts…did I mention the hero is one? Anyway, here’s an exclusive look at seven paragraphs from The JR Chronicles’ first book, Angels and Demons. There’s also short stories and diaries to go with this one. You can find out more about this series at www.thejrchronicles.com and please be kind as I’m still putting the website together but I promise you’ll love it once it’s all there.

Here’s my seven unedited paragraphs from Angels and Demons:

I sidled up to him. “You’ll always be with me. You have always been with me. Doesn’t that count for something?”
He gazed down at me, his eyes soft and contemplative. “I know what you’re trying to do.”
“You do?” I questioned, acting as nonchalant as one could possibly act. I’d always tried to convince Jasper that the friends with benefits thing would work really well for us. After all, it wasn’t like we could truly be there for each other in a forever kind of way.
His forefinger moved down the length of my nose and tapped the end. “You have tried to manipulate me since you were old enough to know and understand what I am. Some had very disastrous results if I recall.” He lifted his brow and looked at me pointedly.
I felt my cheeks grow pink recalling a few of those moments. Another horrid thing left over from my childhood. “Fine, be that way.” I huffed and sat in the nearest chair with arms folded over my chest. I could glare at him all day and it wouldn’t matter. Sex with him would be hard to get. And my body craved what it couldn’t have. So I pouted.
His deep laughter filled the kitchen, its sound sliding over me like a well-worn pair of jeans. “You have the same adorable look as when you were two.”
A rumbled started low in my throat. Now I was really going to kill him. I didn’t know if I should have an ewww moment or a yuck one for wanting to do it with a nearly hundred and sixty year old man. Rather ghost – uh – man-ghost. Whatever. My mind was seething as I tried to dampen my anger. I hated it when I was horny.

This book is the first in a series of books about Serenity Donovan and Jasper Ryan, along with some big secondary human characters including a variety of non-human ones. The books start six years after the death of her parents and her being alone to do the job of paranormal protector. It’s a big series with a lot of words. The hope is to have book one published in January 2016. Right now, I’m working on the back story via short stories and diaries, most of which will be reader exclusives if you get in on the ground floor. Again, watch the website as items become available.

Also, my traditional ePublisher, eXtasy Books still has many of my books on sale at their website. If you’ve never read any of my stories, now’s the time to get them at a great discount and see if I write stories you might like. Pick up your copies today!

My So-Called Writing Life ~ @oddlynn3 #amwriting #LynnCrain #PCers

Well, here I am. I finally made it. Most of you are wondering just why this is a big deal and generally it wouldn’t be. But I have been promising you all that I would start this column for a long, long time. I guess some people think that being a writer is some sort of fantasy life. Hmmm…interesting concept.
In a way, it sort of is, I’ll give you that much. After all, writers do something different every day. Matter of fact, last week I was writing a character journal. What’s a character journal? Fair question and one that needs some attention obviously. Years ago, in some writers class that I took, the instructor mentioned that if you wanted to know your character better you needed to write their journal.
I had never tried this technique but for this particular heroine I needed to do this. I needed to watch the girl group up and come into her own by the time the novel I was writing about her started. And I really didn’t know a thing about her. Now that wasn’t quite true. I knew a lot about her, I just didn’t know the details and I wanted to know them. After all, a writer needs to know their characters inside and out.
So I spent many nights, looking for references, finding tidbits and doing the type of research that would help the project overall. However, it didn’t help with the task at hand. And hence one of the fallacies of a writing life. Writers are focused beings. We have to be to get from point a to point b all on our own and within a reasonable timeframe. But what was I doing? Anything but the writing needed to get this journal complete so I’d know my latest character. And this is a disaster in many ways.
My husband and many of my friends are right. If I stayed as focused on the actual writing as I did the research, I’d get twice as much done. Don’t get me wrong, I write anywhere from 1000 to 5000 words a day minimum but I’d love to be doing twice that much. See I get bored easy and it’s the reason I have about five projects going at one time. Each of them is at a different part and to be honest, you have to pity the stories where I see the ending too soon as they may never get completed.
Yes, I have an idea file full of half-finished wonderful stories that may never see the light of day because I got bored. See…writers get bored…we have many of the foibles that we write about. Though maybe not in as much abundance as our characters but enough that you know we are real, live people with lives to live and places to go.
            Until next week…

Lynn
